Founding of the Meadow
In order to celebrate the Millennium, the government made available funds towards the purchase of land throughout Britain for Millennium Greens. The purchase of the seven acres in the water meadows of Whitchurch, Hampshire was facilitated by additional funds from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and The Whitchurch Town Council. A charity was established and Trustees were appointed to look after the affairs of The Millennium Green.
There is a Chairman; Secretary and Treasurer and various other Trustees one of whom represents the Borough Council and one who represents The Town Council..
The Trustees meet every month and other volunteers work on the Meadow Maintenance and Events sub-committee.
One of the main aims is to ensure that a rich natural flora exists to encourage wildlife and provide an oasis for members of the public. There is a growing educational commitment and a strong events programme.
If you are interested in supporting us, then please join The Friends and perhaps join in with one of the teams helping to make it one of the most vibrant facilities in town.
Friends receive a regular newsletter and the committees are eager to get your feedback on what is wanted by our local users.
Enjoy the meadow.
