Further events follow around Whitchurch; you can stay and relax on the Meadow, or follow the newly crowned Queen to the Gill Nethercott Centre where at 3:30pm she cuts the ribbon to launch the centre’s new cinema system and unveils the new Whitchurch Town Community Website. A free matinee movie, ‘Up’, follows. Later in the evening there is another movie, ‘Nine’. Further details on this event at the Gill Nethercott Centre website.

Update! The tree has been built!
The morning dawned bright and sunny, for the second day of Whitchurch’s first GreenAware Week.

A 'Tree-Mend-Us' trashy tree on the Meadow
Whitchurch Arts and the Whitchurch Sustainability Forum supporters met on the Millennium Meadow for the ‘Trashy Tree’ – a fun recycled art project, dubbed a ‘Tree-Mend-Us’ sculpture.
Soon a shape was taking place with appropriately an old exhaust pipe as the centre support, a clothes whirlygig, cak bands, and all manner of what many would simply term “rubbish”.
By the end of the day the ‘Tree’ had become an impressive finale to the weekend, a true artistic use of old materials – recycling rubbish into an art form.
The meadow smiled!
