Gas Through the Meadow

July 20, 2009toJuly 24, 2009

A gas pipeline which runs through the Meadow will be replaced, as we first mentioned back in January.

Now we know when this work will commence: this coming week, 20 July 2009!

Scotia Gas Networks wrote this to the Meadow chairman, Graham:

This scheme involves the replacement of 167m x 8″ diameter “Spun Iron” gas main operating at a pressure of approximately 2 Bar.

This work forms part of a national gas mains replacement programme which has been agreed with the H&SE.

Due to the environmental considerations in this area, together with the high water table, we are proposing to use the “Directional Drilling” technique. in order to minimise any required excavatory work.

Attached for your interest [is] a brief generic method statement for this technique together with a copy of the  safety data sheet for the Bentonite bore gel.

It is intended to commence work in the Millennium field (Point A on attached plan) and initially install the short section A – B in order to prove the suitability of ground conditions for this technique.

Section A – C will then be installed ensuring a minimum of 3m horizontal clearance from your property. Once the main is tested & commissioned, & the supply to your property transferred to the new main, the old main will then be decommissioned & purged.

All disturbed areas will be reinstated as near as practicable to their original condition.
