Gas through the Meadow
Up until a few days ago certain owners of allotments were worried that the route of the replacement gas main (running from Dennings’ Meadow, across The Weir, past Nine Springs and into the allotments) would have Percy Thrower turning in his grave.
It appears now that none of the new planting will be affected and there is a very good chance that none of the allotment buildings will be affected either.
The pipeline runs across the meadow to the old double gate opposite Webb’s Farm.
We have all been amazed at the efficiency and politeness of the various contacts but having thought why, we think it is because gas is unforgiving. If a leak is found there is simply no scope for several committee meetings to discuss what to do and when.
We now have fascinating plans of what is running beneath our feet in Whitchurch, all put in a long time ago and still giving good service.
